The year was 2016 when the founders of Operating, Lauri, Matti, and Mikko, first met at a digital consulting firm. After six successful years scaling the business to tens of millions in turnover, they had learned a key lesson. Scaling a consulting firm comes down to one thing: balancing supply and demand.
Yet, existing tools fall short. They either focus too much on rigid financial workflows or task-level planning, which creates unnecessary busywork in a business where reality is often messy and hard to predict. This leaves decision-makers struggling with spreadsheets and disconnected systems.
Most importantly, existing tools out there fail at matching the right consultants to the right projects based on skill sets, availability, and future demand. Without clear visibility, firms make suboptimal staffing decisions, leading to inefficiencies and dissatisfaction.
No one is solving the fundamental issue: integrating demand, capacity, and forecasting into a single, scalable platform, while keeping people at the center. Operating was founded to solve exactly that.
